Scuba Diving in Saranda in September: A Practical Albania Guide
Plan a September scuba trip to Saranda with practical advice on conditions, local reefs and wrecks, beginner dives, PADI courses, packing and the meeting point.

September is one of the most useful months to plan a scuba trip to Saranda. The main summer rush begins to ease, while the Ionian Sea usually retains much of its summer warmth. It can suit certified divers, first-time divers and travellers who want to combine diving with a quieter stay on the Albanian Riviera.
This guide is based on how our Saranda team plans September activities. It is not a promise of exact visibility, temperature or a particular dive site. Wind and sea conditions still decide the final schedule each day.
Why dive in Saranda in September?
The strongest reason is balance. July and August are the busiest part of the local season. In September, Saranda remains active but accommodation, roads and beaches can feel less intense than at the summer peak. Water cools more slowly than the air, so many guests still find the sea comfortable with the exposure protection selected by the dive centre.
September also gives travellers more flexibility to plan a course or several guided dives instead of fitting one session into a crowded itinerary. Availability is never guaranteed, so booking ahead is still sensible-especially for PADI courses and groups.
What can certified divers see?
Our programme around Saranda includes rocky reef profiles and historic wreck sites. Hunda e Kuqe is a local reef option, while SS Probitas is one of the best-known wrecks in the area. The Ksamil underwater area may also be considered when conditions, access and diver qualifications fit the plan.
A site name is not a guarantee that every diver will follow the same route. Certification, recent experience, depth limits, buoyancy and the weather all matter. Our wreck dives remain external, with a direct route to the surface; we do not organise wreck penetration dives.
Is September good for a first scuba dive?
Yes, it can be. Our Discover Scuba Diving experience begins from sheltered shallow sea water, where the instructor can introduce breathing, equalisation and the essential safety skills at a controlled pace. It is a supervised experience, not a certification course.
Medical screening and honest health information are required. If a medical answer calls for a physician's approval, that document must be handled before the activity. A first dive should never be rushed to fit a holiday schedule.
Can you take a PADI course in September?
September can be a practical time for PADI Open Water, Advanced, Rescue or continuing education because the centre is still operating in the main season and the peak holiday pressure may be lower. The right course depends on your current certification, required prerequisites and the number of days available.
PADI courses are performance based. Published durations are planning estimates, not a promise that every student finishes at the same speed. Contact us before travelling so we can confirm the instructor, materials, start date and what is included in the current price.

What should you bring?
- Swimwear, a towel and drinking water.
- Your certification card and logbook if you are already certified.
- A medical certificate if one was requested during screening.
- Personal mask, computer or exposure accessories if you prefer your own.
- A light layer for the surface interval and sun protection for the boat or shore.
Standard scuba equipment is included during our training, but fit and exposure protection should be confirmed with the team. Tell us your sizes and any equipment preferences before the activity.
Where do activities meet?
Meet at Saranda Diving Center, Rruga Mitat Hoxha 110, Saranda, Shqipëri, unless your confirmation says otherwise. Our activities are organised from Saranda. Guests staying in Ksamil, Himarë or elsewhere should allow enough travel time to reach the confirmed meeting point.
Planning the rest of your trip
Do not schedule a flight immediately after scuba diving. Leave the appropriate surface interval for the diving you complete and discuss close travel plans with the dive team. Travel or personal diving insurance is also recommended; the dive centre's professional liability insurance does not replace cover for an individual guest.
Compare our guided scuba tours in Saranda, review the PADI courses available in Albania, or choose Discover Scuba Diving if this will be your first underwater experience.
September booking checklist
- Share your preferred dates and the number of divers.
- Tell us each diver's certification and number of logged dives.
- Mention the date of the most recent dive.
- Confirm equipment needs and sizes.
- Check the meeting time before leaving your accommodation.
- Keep enough time after diving before flying.
September does not need exaggerated promises to be appealing. For many visitors, it offers a straightforward combination of a still-active diving season, warm late-summer water and more room to enjoy Saranda at a calmer pace.
